Some Time With The Canon 60D and 7D
The Canon EOS 60D, announced early in 2010 is one of the technology marvels of the millenium.
I had the chance to amuse myself with both a 60D and a 7D recently and they got my heart racing.
There is just such a huge difference between casual cameras like compacts and a high tech SLR camera. Even in only DSLR company these two cameras made lesser, entry level models look like what they are... well... 'entry level'. null Of course both cameras had the usual feel of the precision Canon DSLR's and I got the familiar rush at the sound of the lightning fast shutters, but this time I also experienced the thrill of the 5 FPS continuous shooting of the 7D. One has to experience the rapid fire of 5FPS to appreciate what you get for the money. And the results show in the shots. Subtle differences in facial expressions give you great choices. The 60D did not have the same exhilarating 5PFS but the vari-angel screen and movie features made me want to become a film producer.
Afterwards I examined my photos critically. They were not creative master pieces but there was enough to show just why one would want such a high FPS.... to catch subtle differences or action series shots... and then have more choice. The 18 MP sensors of both cameras demonstrated their worth in fine detail, especially in landscape shots.
I am perhaps naive in believing that an APS-C camera can take precisely the same quality photographs as Full Frame professional toys in 99% of cases. I just don't believe all the web based 'evidence' of full frame superiority.
Let's turn the tables. Take a good photograph and show it to one of these experts. Then let them tell you what size sensor was used. I believe they will spot a compact vs a DSLR but not an APS-C vs a Full Frame sensor.
Ultimately between the Canon 60D vs 7D I favoured the 60D.
My wife would have too much to say if I came home with yet another DSLR, so for now all I can do is review the 7D vs 60d.
